Rebel Yell
In May 2024 I was participating in a large company employee resource group (ERG) meeting. The presentation was about inclusive language. As the session went on the moderators started stating that common phrases like, “ducks in a row” or “move the needle” should not be used in the workplace as the could alienate those that do not understand them.
When the asked type in the chat other phrases that could be non-inclusive or may be appropriation the word “Fi st Rodeo” was typed.
The chat blew up and after a few seconds it was clear this dyslexic participant had missed the “r” in First Rodeo.
“is that violent”, “sounds sexual”, “did he intend to type first rodeo”, “what is that”, “sounds like something you should never say,” and on and on.
A movement was born, Fist Rodeo is about letting the little things go, focus on what is true and having fun.
